Painting Entries 021: Glowup

Hello everyone, with the end of the Late Night Wargames podcast, I’m also winding down the Bromad Academy painting contest. I’m thankful for all the entries and support over the years–we’ve been privileged to show off some fantastic work, both conversion and paint, over the years. I’ve also gotten to know a lot of people around the world through our interactions that were started by this competition, and I am grateful to all for their kind words, friendship, and support as we transition away from LNW and Bromad Academy.

With that, let me present the last set of entries for the Bromad Academy painting competition–Glowup!

Luca (DropBear)

I’ve chosen the O-12 Gamma Unit. Back in N4 I always struggled to include it in my list only to eventually cut it for a simple reason: while incredibly durable (ARM 6 2W+NWI) it was an easy target of hacking (no tinbot, no sixth sense). In N5 Gamma Unit got Warhorse rule, making it impervious to Isolation making it a viable option even for Lieutenant role.

Andrea (VeryFastPanda)

My entry for the Glow Up category is the humble Kulak hacker; a profile which went from being very outclassed by its Rounder counterpart in N4 to becoming an excellent swiss army knife in N5: the Carbonite upgrade makes him dangerous against hackable targets both in active and ARO, and the BS13 Disco Baller gives him additional utility in the form of vision control.

For 20 points and 0 SWC (0 swc carbonite in Nomads, yay!) he also brings an exceptional pure DUO/HARIS option in vanilla with the Kulak HRL, another excellent active and ARO backup shooter with +1SD and mimetism. Despite being all in all a supporting team, the 2kulaks+MMR rounder carried a lot of games for me lately (especially the one in the last photo, where he single-handedly defended an objective from an Hac Tao and a Hulang for an entire reactive turn).

Lawrence (Law Dawg)

The Pheasant Imperial Agent got a nice glow up with a new doctor profile and E/Mitter on most other profiles. I haven’t had a chance to get a game in yet but really enjoyed painting her. I painted her like a red golden pheasant aka Chinese pheasant – it’s the pheasant most commonly seen in Chinese paintings.

Dawid (Shingen)

My Fracta with boarding shotgun with glow up, that is super jump, jet propulsion (yes please!) and adhesive launcher (great!) in OCF which suddenly has multiple interesting builds availble (what more could she wish for).

Winner

Our distinguished judges have convened one last time to determine the winner of the this painting competition, and it’s Dawid’s lovely Fracta! Black is a notoriously hard color to paint well, and he’s done a fantastic job. Lots of little details pulled out on all our entrants as well, from the tasteful edge highlight on the armor plate of Luca’s Gamma to the teeth on the skull mask of Andrea’s Kulak to the excellent face on Lawrence’s Pheasant.

Thank you to all our entrants, and as always, we choose a random winner, and this last quarter it’s Luca (DropBear)!
