The WarCors WarParty
The top infinity event of the year! Organised by a group of WarCors from across the Human Sphere, the WarCors WarParty was also a Satellite event – giving the winner a free place at the Inteplanetario! 38 Players set out but there could be only 1.
After an early start I arrived just before 9 to set up tables. I’d bough with me both my NeoCity table and scratch built JSA Outpost. We had 19 tables in all with a real range of styles, from tight to wide open. 11 am – dice rolled, and the dying began, as the Biotechvore cloud came for everyone!

Game 1
- Mission: Biotechvore
- Opponent: Ian “IJW”
- Faction: Shasvasti
- List: A
The last time I’d played Ian was 2 year ago in a friendly game before the UK expo, and so I knew this game would be a tough start!
I won initiative and took the easy choice to take turn order and go first – run away from the cloud!
At this point though I forgot that I was setting up for Biotechvore… Rather than setting up for rapid movement, I deployed in my normal Domaru/Tanko fortress mode – stacking ARO’s by using the roof tops… and then just after we were about to start I thought… doh!
Turn 1 JSA
Ian had a Nox sniper in a 5 man core fire team covering my Domaru/Tanko’s, so I popped out Saito right on the mid line (he made his confused deployment roll) and threw smoke out to block that fire lane. I then had to jump with all the link team to get down (as there was no ladder (doh!!) and moved up the table with no ARO’s getting clear of the zone. On the way the Domaru Spitfire managed to put down a Ikadron and a Taigha creature.
[RULES INTERLUDE: Ian and I had an interesting discussion about measuring the HVT, and we decided that you should place the HVT and then measure ONLY to the HVT. That way it stopped people pre-measuring the 16” of the zone when placing the HVT.]
I then turned to my Karakuri/Domaru Haris, and that’s where the problems started. Ian had set up an excellent ARO with his Gwailo HRL which drew a line between my Karakuri and the Domaru. I couldn’t bring across the Domaru without either getting a rocket to the face or getting caught in a blast when it hit my Karakuri. Knowing the Karakuri’s Total Immunity would stop the Fire special ammo I decided to go for the long range shot at over 32” my MK12 was on 4’s vs the Gwailos 7’s. Two attempts later and all I had done is taken a structure damage…
Plan B. Keeping the Haris for the first move I split them up, the two Karakuri going left and the Domaru Right. The Domaru dropped from the haris, so I then used two co-ordinated orders to get clear.
The Biotechvore cloud only caught my Domaru (Haris) but 0.5” and he took a wound.
Turn 1 Shasvasti
Ian rearranged his fire team to allow his Hacker to put supportware onto his Missile Launcher T-Drone, then reformed the link, leaving out the sniper (so he didn’t get ARO’d) – and then went to work!
The T-Drone drew a LoF onto my Tanko ML I’d left on ARO and then I realised I’d bunched up and the blast would hit the Tanko Flammenspear, another Tanko and my Domaru LT both who were out of LoF. Choosing the best of a bad set of options I chose to all dodge. The targeted tanko was vapourised, the second Tanko dodged, and the Domaru LT managed to dodge.
Ian then moved up his Gwailo HRL/M-Drone/Victor Messer Haris up and caught my Domaru Spitfire with a rocket hitting with a blast template and catching my Domaru LT again (he’d just dodge into that spot!). This time the Domaru LT burned to unconscious, and the spitfire burned to death! The team continued to move up and the M-Drone managed to put my Karakuri HSG down to dogged…
Ian then realised he needed to get out of the Biotechvore zone and started to move up, but not quickly enough!
The Biotechvore cloud claimed his Nox Sniper, his other Taigha creature and another Nox trooper.
Turn 2 JSA
In Loss of Lieutenant with 6 orders left. I couldn’t let the 2 remaining Tanko’s use their Impetuous order as they would have run straight through a building into the LoF of the T-Drone. Ian had also moved one of his Nox EI Hackers into the building, and had his Spec Ops Nox EI Hacker so I moved I would take a Hacking ARO, but I had to take that chance!
My Tanko ML moved out with his Light Shot Gun and took down a Nox line trooper, then tanked 4 BTS saves from a double ARO hack!
Saito then stepped up and popped a smoke grenade against the door to the building. The Tanko (Blitzen) then charged in (with stealth) and engaged the Nox EI Hacker, hit him with Monofilament who took a hit, but ARM saved! The Spec Ops EI Hacker ARO’d with Gotcha and put the Tanko into IMM-1.
Using a command token, I gave Saito my Spec Ops order and he ran into the room and butchered the Nox EI Hacker.
Last two orders. The Domaru moved up to the building. The Karakuri MK12 moved into an ATO position and opened up on the R-Drone taking it down.
Turn 2 Shasvasti
The Gwailo HRL (now out of Haris) moved up and drew a long ARO to my Domaru and burned him to death (my new LT…)
The Gwailo HRL tried to repeatedly take on the MK 12 Karakuru. Both managed to land hits but neither got through ARM!
The T-Drone (FTO) dropped a missile at -3 range onto my IMM-1 Tanko and vapoursed both him and Saito next to him!
He moved around the side of the building with a Nox Combi to take on the Tanko ML , who made his Reset roll vs IMM-1 and tanked the ARM saves. He tried against and the Tanko took down the Nox!
Ian then moved up a Camo marker and made a surprise attack on the Tanko ML with his Caliban Engineer but he Tanked the save. He attacked again sucking a wound out with promethean, but was then out of orders.
The Biotechvore loud killed a seed soldier who hadn’t moved!
Turn 3 JSA
Loss of Lieutenant… again… but still in the fight, with 3 orders left! The Tanko ML used his Impetuous order and attacked the Caliban, who ARM saved. He then attacked with his own order and sliced him in half with his monofil.
The Spec Ops popped out and put a burst into another Nox and put it down.
The Karakuri MK12 tried again to kill the Gwailo and again he ARM saved.
Turn 3 Shasvasti
Loss of Lieutenant! (The Spec ops killed his Nox LT). Ian put all of his command tokens and orders into the Gwailo and again the karakuri and Gwailo went at it, and again everyone made their ARM saves!
Final Score
This was such an intense game that even in the counting up points we still didn’t know who’d won. I thought I’d scraped it… and Ian suddenly realised he’d forgot to bring on his Cadmus. Then he saw he’d forgotten his Gwailo!
Stuart – Loss. 0 TP. 2 OP (75+ points survived 2OP). 85 VP
Ian – Partial Victory. 2 TP. 4 OP (75+ points survived 2OP, more AP killed 2OP). 134 VP
Claasifieds? Nah, we were too busy killing each other!

Game 2
- Mission: Looting and Sabotage
- Opponent: Jack “ProjectJack”
- Faction: Shasvasti
- List: A
OMG! More Shasvasti! This time a limited insertion list! We were on a VERY open table. Jack one initiative and took turn order to go first, which with my strong ARO game suited me.
Turn 1 Shasvasti
Jack started my throwing smoke with a Speculo onto his Gwailo HRL MSV2. The Gwailo moved out in the open (because of course he has a nanoscreen) and took a shot at my Tanko ML. We measure, and he was in bad range (over 32”). With the Tankos Sixth Sense L2, he ignore the smoke mods, so we rolled. My B2 on 16’s vs his B2 on 7’s.
I rolled 18 and 19, and he scored a hit! The Tanko… burned to death… It was going to be one of those games…
He moved up the Gwailo into good range and took a shot at my Tanko Fammenspear who shot back but was beaten and fell back. He then continued to move up and took a shot at the Domaru spitfire and landed a wound, he fell back.
With the ARO’s cleared he moved up his Sheskin, double Cutthroat Haris and went after the Karakuri on might right flank. Sheskin landed a double Fatality L2 CRIT (1 and 15) on my Karakuri MK 12 who went dogged. Sheskin powered down the right flank (behind her nanoscreen) and after two more bursts put the Karakuri off the table. He landed a hit on my Karakuri HSG who took a structure and went prone. Low on orders Sheskin charge the AC2 and with his last order did a move-move into base contact, taking a HSG shot from the Karakuri in the back. Sheskin then used her LT order, slapped a D-Charge on it, and took 2 STR off the antenna. The Karakuri ARO’d and put her down with another HSG burst.
Turn 2 JSA
Jack had moved his two Cutthroats right past Saito – it was too tempting to resist! Saito moved out as a marker, to behind the LoF of both Cutthroats, one delays and one successfully discovers. Saito then threw smoke down, and one of them changed face. He then re-camo’d and moved in on the first cutthroat – dead Cutthroat! He recamo’d, moved in on the second CRIT, dead Gwailo. 6 orders – 2 dead Cutthoats.
3 Orders left I had to deal with the Speculo killer. I managed to discover it twice and then shoot it down with the Domaru Spitfire.
Last order Saito recamo’d.
Turn 2 Shasvasti
The Speculo (minelayer) threw smoke over the Gwailo and he moved up into LoF of Saito. Next order did a discover shoot and put two Breaker pistol shots into his head… Luckily there were no move targets with the Gwailo so he retreated back.
He moved up his Victor Messer who had a long range firefight with my Tankos but only manage to wound 1, and both fell back into cover.
Turn 2 JSA
The Gwailo had to go…. He had my Tankos covered so I decided to run my Karakuri HSG up the flank and take him on with my HSG… 6 orders later the Gwailo was dead but only after putting my Karakuri onto dogged (helped by a 24” Ikadron pistol CRIT!!!) and tanking 4-5 hits.
Turn 3 Shasvasti
With only a few orders left, he moved around to cover his AC2 and laid a mine next to it with his Speculo.
Turn 3 JSA
I had 5 orders and a LT order and a plan. The now 4 man fireteam moved out heading to the Panoply. They used a co-ordinated order and all 4 made WP rolls, 2 passed, but my LT failed!
They continued to move up, but I had to move past the mine. My closest Tanko had picked up D-Charges but was on 1 wound… he charged at the antenna… the mine went off… and he failed his ARM save! 1 more order and I could have got to the antenna….. damn it!
Final Score
Stuart – Loss. 0 TP. 1 OP (1 STR left on AC2 1OP, more panoplies 1OP). 121 VP
Jack – Partial Victory. 3 TP. 5 OP (3 STR left on AC2 3 OP, 2 STR caused 2OP). 112 VP
So close!

Game 3
- Mission: Firefight
- Opponent: Paul “Zero”
- Faction: Nomad
- List: B
Paul was one of HATE Infinity Padawans! I fully expect next year, half of the people at the tournament will be new recruits from HATE! Great to see the game growing.
I won the initiative and went first.
Turn 1 JSA
Paul had set up very defensively. There were a lot of camo tokens about! I had decided not to push Shinobu up, but to put her on the mid line near a panoply. I considered moving her up but there were just too many camo markers! Plan B.
Using a co-ordinated order I moved the 3 Ryuken up. One got a LoF onto a Stemplar Zond and put it down. I moved another of the Ryuken up on to the plaform and took a shot at one of his Puppets but it saved and fell back. All three Ryukens went on suppression.
I then activated the Keisotsu Fireteam and moved up onto the platform and took a good ARO position around a food hut (good noodles). I managed to discover shoot a Zero Camo marker, but couldn’t get any more good shots due to his great defensive setup.
Turn 1 Nomads
Paul knew exactly what he wanted to do. He popped out his intruder Sniper and tookout my Ryuken on Supression Fire in one shot! He then moved up a Jaguar and threw smoke, to cover his Puppet team. After some fine ARO checking he managed to work out a path, to avoid my Ryuken’s on suppression.
The Puppet BSG got a LoF on Yuriko Oda and laid a template over her and the Keisotsu HMG behind her, managing to put both down! He then moved around a got a shot with the Puppet SMMR on my Kempeitai SMMR and killed her, SHOCK DEAD!
Turn 2 JSA
My Fire team had folded, but I had a back up. Using a co-ordinated order I moved up my Spec Ops, and two other spare Keisotsu – but the Jaguar landed a 24” pistol shot and killed one! I reformed the link into a 4 man team, and tried to land a missile on the Jaguar to catch a puppet in the blast but kept missing! The Jaguar got down smoke in the ARO to block LoF. I switched around to the Puppet BSG and got one hit with my Spec ops taking it to Battle Ravaged state.
I activated the Ryuken on the platform and moved to take out the Reaktion Zond (TR HMG) and with the ODD and cover managed to take it out, but Paul revealed a Hecklar, prone in a building, who tried to ARO with a jammer, but failed, so that Ryuken was locked down. The other Ryuken on that side moved out and tried to discover the camo token nearby but failed.
I decided to use my LT order and spec fired an EM grenade at one of the Puppets on a 5, rolled a 4, and it failed BTS and was isolated and immobalised!
Turn 2 Nomads
The Puppets came on again and took out my Spec Ops and Keisotsu ML. Leaving just Neko.
The camo marker near the Ryuken dropped a mine around the corner, and he bought round another camo marker (A Zero Hacker) and took a shot at the Ryuken, who dodged, failed and was taken out by the mine.
Turn 3 JSA
I decided, rather belatedly, to bring out shinobu and go for the Heckler. She got into B2B as a marker, made the hit roll but he saved both! With only one order left in that pool I couldn’t take any more actions with her and used the Ryuken on the platform to pop a panoply. He passed WP and got a PanzerFaust!
Out of orders in group 2, I tried to take on the Puppets with a Keisotsu but was critted off the table, SHOCK DEAD.
Turn 3 Nomads
The Intruder Sniper rocked up and took an 18” shot into the Shinobu/Heckler Melee. He drilled two DA shots into Shinobu.
He moved his SMMR Puppet popping a panoply and then moved to take on the Ryuken, but he hit with his Panzerfaust and blew it to pieces. With the final orders of the game, a Bandit three himself on a panoply, using scavenger for automatic success!
Final Score
Stuart – Loss. 0 TP. 0 OP. 134 VP
Paul – Complete Victory. 3TP. 5 OP (More Army Points 3 OP, More Panoplies 1 OP, More Specialists 1 OP). 175 VP
The Survivors
End of Day 1
CRASH AND BURN! 3 losses! I had some shockingly bad dice and some bad tactics in the 1stgame, but that shouldn’t take away from my opponents’ excellent games! 3 very enjoyable and painful games! Day 2 could only get better… or could it…
